Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank

Let’s get this straight. I watch art films. I’m not crazy about art films. I like films. I watch films that I like. I don’t watch art films that don’t interest me. I don’t watch films that don’t interest me. I am as shallow a moviegoer as they come. My favorite Filipino film of all time is Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag starring Bembol Roco and Hilda Koronel. My second favorite Filipino movie of all time is Kimmy Dora. haha! :)

So with that in mind, I would like to say that I watched Ang Babae sa Septic Tank and I liked it. =) Here are the top 5 reasons why I did:

TOP 5 REASONS WHY I LIKE BABAE SA SEPTIC TANK

1. Eugene Domingo was totally flawless as herself. She was extraordinary in her role of being the “star”.  She was written to be predictable, but then she erupts in killer moments that awe you. My favorite scene was the septic tank scene (duh) that made me just clap my hands and say— dammit– that’s acting!

2. Imma admit it and say it. I also watched this film because of Kean. Let’s just say that some time ago, I met Kean when he was still in UST and just starting out with his band. And I really did want to know if Kean can act. I’ve heard that he started acting in TV5, but I really don’t watch TV…so it was a surprise on how well he did! KEAN can act. Nicely done dude! Although, watching Kean actually made me feel a little old. I’m sure I’m not alone in this one. *nudging some of my friends*

3. The supporting characters were golden. The dude who played the director from Venice was so on point. He’s prolly my favorite character after Eugene. He managed to show everything we love to hate in certain people. And yeah, he made me love “expresso.”  Actually, his scene was the pivotal — “okay, my money is bawi na” part of my movie-going experience. Actually, acting wise, everyone did awesome! From JM, the producer to the silent PA to the cameos of certain people/characters. :)

4.The director did a great job. He won the best director award for the festival right? And I don’t know him, but I’m hoping he doesn’t end up like that dude I liked in #3,  haha!

5. It’s a film that laughs at itself and at other people at the same time. I’m a fan of those things. Figures, right? hehe.

Supportahan natin ang Pelikulang Pilipino. =)

So to leave you, here’s the trailer of the film.

** We watched this in Powerplant. As far as I know there are only 2 cinemas showing this in Makati—Powerplant or Glorietta. Go watch! :)

Fast Five

I’ve watched this movie twice already! :)

Shout-outs :

  • Thank you to Teleserv for the Advance Screening last May 4 in Gateway, Cubao, and the awesome freebies including a jacket and tumbler. Thank you Kassy for the invite.
  • And thank you to my friends for watching it again with me last weekend. Thank you to those who’ve never watched a Fast and the Furious movie before but still watched it. I’m sure you were kinda.. what/bored??! but I hope you enjoyed. :)

And I really don’t want to review the movie, per se. What is there to review? It’s an action film about hot cars, funny/hot men and women, and kicking ass. As someone put it, it’s not Ulysees, but enjoyable.

So…

Fast Five Things Why I Likey This Movie:

1) Funny punchlines

It’s not a comedy but almost all of the characters made me laugh. haha! Or mababaw lang talga ako. :)

2) Han

I love Han. :) Who is he?  He’s this handsome fellow below.

He dies in Tokyo Drift, but Fast Five is a prequel to Tokyo Drift, hence he’s alive– capisce?

3) Latinas Girls Rock

The whole movie only had Latinas had Latinas and an Israeli (Gisele Harabo). All the girls were hot.. and strong! Let’s face it, they carried their weight. Haha! “Latina” and one of the boys.. sounds familiar? haha!

Oh and Fast Five Latina Hairflip for the win! :) **

4) Fight Scenes

The movie was action-filled from start to finish! Seriously. I’ve never been so happy to be a boy before.* Haha! :)   My favorite scene in the movie was when Vin Diesel and the Rock go head to head. Wrestling!

5) it’s like Ocean’s 11— only a lot younger.. and street. :)

I enjoyed the movie. I liked the plot twists and turns and whatnot. Someone commented that Vin Diesel and Paul Walker’s acting chops were very shallow at best. I agree, still doesn’t detract from how great an action movie this is. :)

Goodness, I’m such a boy.* haha! :)

To end this, I give you  “How We Roll” by Don Omar off the really nice Fast Five OST.

*I’m not a boy, but I do enjoy very boyish things like cars, action films, toys, etc etc.

**I kinda coined this term because of Gisele’s entrance in the movie. haha! :) I like doing this. Add this to the crazy stupid things I do for fun. CHECK!

Vlad and I talked about this movie after seeing a movie poster somewhere sometime last week. He texted that the film was still showing in Glorietta (and Trinoma) until March 19  until today–March 20, so we invited peeps and made plans to see it.

All I knew about the film was:

  • I knew that one of Kassy’s friends directed it, as she was promoting it in facebook
  • Vlad approved, so it must be good! :)
  • it’s about highschool
  • and we had no idea who was in it.
We went out of the theater smiling.
If you want to remember how it feels to be in highschool, find a way to watch this movie.**
Trailer’s below:
There is something to be said about movies that make you think, and even more of movies that bring back forgotten memories and take you back to a certain time in your life.
They are movies that are worth watching. =)
Oh, and the OST’s pretty kick-ass too. The song, Pagbigyan makes me want to alternately tear my hair out and sing along.  [Song is by Johnoy Danao, you can listen here: http://soundcloud.com/johnoydanao/pagbigyan]
**We managed to watch the last screening of this movie. Here’s hoping it gets shown in Cinema One or it gets another screening again.
Sidenote: I’ll also note that the actors in this movie, all of  the kids were mostly first timers. Good acting chops kids! :)
