My Tuesday Night Habit

when someone brought a camera =)

I have a Tuesday night habit. It’s sorta like an addiction of sorts….

For the past year now, I’ve been attending Quiz Night at Murphy’s Pub under the Team PG. I do this because it relaxes me and it’s nice having something you know you’re doing every week that you know will be fun.

This post was written a month ago, but posted only today because the bunny has been busy. Written because I like to find reasons for my madness (in most things..), this post has some reasons why i think people like going to quiz in no particular order.

1 ) Teaches humility.

early PG days, the night we won for the first time! πŸ™‚

The Quiz humbles everyone. If you don’t think it will…

Please do join us in quiznight! πŸ™‚

2 ) Teaches new things.

Quiz has taught me stuff I never thought I would know– like for example — Germany has the biggest production of hops.

What are hops? Flowers used for making beer. I can go on and on, but actually I’m not really sure if I retained any knowledge..really. haha! But I can hope.

3 ) Totally makes useless things you know USEFUL! πŸ™‚

airhead and lucky charm

For example, recently– my historical pocket book reading life became useful when I answered the question: “What do you call London’s first professional police force, sometimes paid a fee in finding missing persons, etc…”. The answer?

Bow Street Runners.

Nobody believed me, but the trick to quiz is that if you know you’re right— fight for it. (naks so may some personality/life lesson pala.. haha!) Someone was saying bobbies but I knew that was wrong and I’m pushy so I got my way– and we got the right answer! And my friend Rudi was so surprised– haha! Because i’m the official airhead of team PG. **

4 ) Let’s you connect with old friends.

PG started when my college barkada, PG Society went drinking in Murphy’s and we thought we could totally do this (and win.. kapal!). So we joined and we tanked on the first night.

I’ve also reconnected with some HS classmates and surfer friends during the course of quiz. My immediate reaction if they want a thing to do on Tuesday is — wanna join quiz night? haha!

5 ) Let’s you make new friends.

positron night! πŸ™‚

I belong to a helluva lot of things from clubs/associations/group of friends and yes, almost all of those groups are represented in my quiznight team. (Well, except the IWC because then i’d have to bring my mom. haha!) I also usually go to parties and recruit. haha! Ayun na new friends! πŸ™‚

Also, i would just like to add that i’ve met some of the best people in quiz. πŸ™‚

Some people go and they like it. Some people go and never come back. Such is the quiz night bug. But one thing I am proud of is that I made number 6 come true for some people.

6 ) Sometimes it introduces you to the love of your life

Kix and Chris! πŸ™‚

Well, before people get too excited — it’s not me. I’m talking about Kix and Chris! Quiznight did start the romance of these two friends of mine who are married now! How amazing is that!? And it all started with a ballpen that wrote quiz answers really nicely and the other person refusing to give it back. haha! Ang cute niyo talga mga Salipuran-Dooley! πŸ™‚

7) Assuages one’s competitive streak.

rudi always wants to win πŸ™‚

Let’s face it. Everyone’s competitive. Those who say they aren’t have no drive to succeed. Sino sila? For sure, di ko sila friends. Bow.

I like winning. πŸ™‚ Sue me, call me whatever, but I do. But of course I like winning ONLY when #8 happens.

8 ) Crazy fun!

after quiz tea and cold beverage

There are very classic quiznight moments from me saying my latina airhead lines, to Vlad slow clapping and then asking “sino ang mga yan?”, to Jeeves getting the title King X-terra, to Rudi’s (and the team’s) feature in QTV, to the creation ofΒ  the very famous Rapunzel Club, Baton Club and the Lucky Charm Club—to name a few. Sometimes it gets really crazy. Sometimes it’s like a telenovela na–surreal. Yun na lang. bow.

The PG is a really crazy bunch. When I say crazy, I mean minsan masakit sa ulo. haha! πŸ™‚ I would also like to add that PG Chowking/Blenz after quiz get togethers are epic. bow.

9) The joy of making guest quizzes!

yay team ! πŸ™‚

Everytime a team gets 3rd, they get to make a guest quiz for the next quiz night. We like– nay— LOVE doing these. We view this as a strategic advantage, and we actually enjoy talking about what guest quiz to make. Some of us are quite addicted to making these. I won’t name names.. but instructor siya sa UST. haha!

10) Free food and wine!!!

Since we are fortunate to place/win in quiz night, we get free gift certificates from Murphy’s. We usually compile these and declare a night as subsidized so we get to enjoy the fruits of our mental labor.

It’s just fun knowing you contributed to something. Usually, I’m happy getting at least one correct answer. Haha! At the end of the day, as one of my friends succinctly put– it’s about being with friends and enjoying each other’s company.. more than winning.

The last part is totally not true. I like to win! haha! πŸ™‚ Quiz tomorrow!

I leave you with a youtube video of the feature on Murphy’s Quiz Night in QTV, we won that night. haha! πŸ™‚

Team ni Rudi ftw!

Murphy’s Pub is located at the corner of Rufino and Esteban St. Quiz starts at 8pm.

  1. Oh, man. I so miss Cebu Trivia Nights! You should stop by Alejandro’s on Wednesday night if you’re ever in Cebu. =)) Aside from the fun game they have the best crispy pata in Cebu.

Some people from Manila quiz night joined us a few months back , I think you might know some of them. =)
